Shorecrest junior chosen for student ambassador exchange program

Rebecca K.Junior Rebecca K. was selected by the International Relations Committee of the City of St. Petersburg to be one of two students chosen for the Student Ambassador Exchange Program to Takamatsu, Japan, the sister city of St. Petersburg.
The International Sister City program is based on the idea that citizen-to-citizen contacts among countries will promote better relations and peace. Rebecca's travel expenses will be paid for by the city, and she will spend three weeks this July hosted by families in Takamatsu.
While in Japan, Rebecca will have an official meeting with the Mayor of Takamatsu, attend high school with Japanese students, represent the city as a goodwill ambassador, and share information about our city and culture with Japanese students and others.
Rebecca anticipates that she will experience typical Japanese family life, culture, customs and local sights while living with her host families.
Rebecca will be asked to communicate back to St. Petersburg while in Takamatsu for postings to the city's Web site. Upon her return, Rebecca will share her experiences with other students, civic groups, and city officials.
Congratulations, Rebecca!
