Shorecrest MD Girls 8, Tampa Prep 0 (Nov. 18)

The young Chargers girls MD soccer team jumped out to a huge 4-0 lead by the first water break of its Thursday, November 18 home game vs. Tampa Prep, led by two scores by Olivia R. (the first assisted by Sage F. and Kendall P.; the second assisted by Victoria V.), one by Kylie H. and a penalty kick by Sophie W.

After the water break, it was Holly M.'s turn to shine with back-to-back goals just minutes apart. In the second half the Chargers shuffled positions frequently, eventually gaining two more points on shots by Camille P. and Sophie W., whose second and final goal brought the game to an 8-0 end. In all, the offense made 26 shots on goal!

Among those taking shots were Nicole L., Bailee M. (3) Victoria V., and Francesca J. The defense really shone: neither goalie Katie J. in the first half nor Olivia D. in the second half even handled the ball, thanks to outstanding work by Brandee T., Kylie H., Sage F., Multy O., Wendy R., Sydney B., Laura H., and Amanda P.

Shorecrest MD Girls 1, Out of Door Academy 4, Nov. 16, 2010

The Middle Division Girls Soccer squad opened its 2010-2011 season on the road in Sarasota at Out of Door Academy, losing 4-1 on Tuesday, November 16.

Despite the lopsided score, the game had plenty of good news for the future. Katie J. played a perfect first quarter in goal, coming back on defense late to support Olivia D., who had never played an official game in goal before. Olivia made an impressive debut in the position, stopping nine shots on goal, many times bringing her teammates on the bench to their feet, cheering.

Sophie W. scored the Chargers' only goal after the first half, tightening the score to 2-1, where it remained until the last few moments when the Thunder launched two rockets into the goal. Taylor A. and Kendall P. each had a shot on goal; multiple offsides calls against Shorecrest short-circuited several scoring drives.

Other highlights included Amanda P. taking charge of the defense and preventing several shots from scoring. The defense and midfield included some excellent play by rookies including Laura H., Wendy D., Sage F., Victoria V., Sydney B., Nicole L. and Camille P.
