Dec. 8 Game Result: Shorecrest 4, Seffner Christian 3

Finally! Two enormous cheers erupted -- on the field and on the bench -- as the Chargers MD Girls Gold team had its first shot on goal and its first goal scored for Shorecrest in a road game at Seffner Christian on Thursday, Dec. 8. Breck T. had Gold's first shot on goal (three games into the season) and minutes later, Ashley B. became the squad's first player to find the net. Olivia R. (shots) and Camille P. (assists) -- on loan from the Green squad -- combined on two additional scores, one in each half. Caya S. (two), Kim B. and Olivia D. also had shots on goal in the game. Early into the second half, Breck T. also put a ball in the net, her point being the difference maker in an electrifying 4-3 final score.

Carly T., Hannah L., Julia G., Jessie J., Karli M. and Sarah F. worked extremely hard as strikers and midfielders and continually to demonstrate marked improvement in their positions.

In goal, Olivia D. stopped five of six shots with Jessie J. going one for three.

The defense was once more electrifying in the game with kudos to Harsheen M., Laura H., Wendy D., Elizabeth H., Karli M. and Madison H. for repeatedly frustrating the Seffner Christian offense and dramatically reducing the number of shots against Shorecrest compared with its game two days early vs. Sarasota Christian.

The Gold team's record is now 2-2.

December 2, 2011: Shorecrest 7, Keswick Christian 0

The Shorecrest Middle Division Girls Gold soccer team came out swinging at Keswick Christian on Friday, Dec. 2, scoring a big victory, 7-0. The game was unusual as it was actually played by a hybrid squad, with middle school players from Gold, Green and even JV filling in for 6th graders away on the Pathfinders trip.

Despite the high score, it was actually the Chargers defense that shone brightest in this game, allowing just three shots on goal in the entire game, two handled by Olivia D., one by Sophie W., making her debut in the position. That earned a tip o' the hat to Multy O., Madison H., Laura H., Peninah B. and Sage F.

On the offensive side of the game, a slow first 15 minutes led to an explosion the rest of the way, with 27 shots on goal. Holly M. and Nicole M. led the team with two goals each, followed by single scores by Sophie W., Olivia R. and Camille P. Seven girls earned assists, including two each for Kendall P. and Olivia R. and single credits for Olivia D., Peninah B, and Camille P.

The victory improved the combined MD Girls record to 2-3.

Shorecrest MD Green Girls Soccer Road Trip! (Nov. 18, 2011)

Nov. 18, 2011: Shorecrest Green 1, St. Stephens 0

The Girls Middle Division Green Team opened their 2011-12 season with a thrilling victory over St. Stephens School of Bradenton winning by a score of 1 - 0.

The entire team contributed to the victory. Nicole Levine scored the game's only goal assisted by Caya Sabota. Kendall Pope and Holly Morris had a combined total of six shots on goal, while Camille Pillot, Laura Heagy, Madison Holt, and Kim Bastas helped control mid field play. Breck Tanner showed great poise assisting both at midfield and up front.

The defense was anchored by keeper Olivia Dannemiller who had seven saves while recording the shutout. Defenders Multy Oliver, Mariah Vesely, Harsheen Marwah, and Chayton Hemsey shut down the potent St. Stephens attack.

Play continues on November 29th as the Green Machine travels to Indian Rocks Christian.

Amazing Goalies Saves in Girls Soccer!

Nov. 16, 2011: Berkeley Prep 6, Chargers 0

The first game of the 2011-12 MD Girls Soccer season kicked off at the Florida Power field on Wednesday, November 16 with the Gold team losing 6-0 to a bigger, more experienced Berkeley Prep team. But the score was hardly the story of the game as the shock for many Chargers in playing their first MD game on a full-size field wore off by the first water break and the defense settled down. Four goals were scored by Berkeley by the water break but none after that before the second half. Goalie Olivia D. stopped 8 of 12 shots on goal, many in spectacular fashion.

In the second half, first-time goalie Jessie J. stepped in and handled 2 of 3 shots on goal -- a dramatic statement by a defense that rapidly learned from the game's start and visibly frustrated the visitors. Berkeley scored its final goal on a corner kick that Jessie initially handled but that ultimately scooted in on a rebound chip shot. Outstanding defensive work in the game was demonstrated by Elizabeth H., Madison H. and Multy O. The Chargers girls managed two shots on goal, both in the final 15 minutes, both by Sam E.

FC Tampa Bay Opening Night @ Al Lang Field!

Opening minutes of play, opening day for FC Tampa Bay @ Al Lang Field, April 9, 2011
Coach Bob and his wife and daughter had a great time watching the opening day game for FC Tampa Bay (formerly the Tampa Bay Rowdies) @ Al Lang Field on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront.

Tampa Bay beat Montreal on a thrilling score in the final minute to a break an 0-0 tie.

Also on hand from the Shorecrest Girls MD Chargers team were Cennedi M., Kylie H., and Francesca J. Also spotted: former soccer player Meredith L.

Question: Even though our season is long over, would anyone be interested in team/family night out at a future FC Tampa Bay game? It was a lot of fun and tickets are reasonably priced! (Just steer clear of the hot dogs. They're awful!) How could we not support this team? They wear Shorecrest Chargers colors!!!

End of the Year Party, Awards!

The Middle Division Girls Soccer team completed one of its most successful seasons in many years with an 8-7-1 record and a pizza and awards party at Dal'italia Ristorante.

There was little surprise in the girls' choice for Most Valuable Player this year, with the award going in a runaway to sixth grade playmaker Sophie W., who led the team in goals and assists.

The Most Improved Player vote generated much more drama, with so many girls earning recognition from their teammates. In a close field, however, Sydney B. ultimately took home the plaque.

In a season when so many girls improved their skills dramatically in just three months, there were also many contenders for the Coaches Award, which went to Katie J. in recognition of her consistency and excellence in goal and willingness to step in anywhere on the field she could help.

Sophie W. receives the Most Valuable Player award, voted by her teammates!
Coaches Bob Andelman and John Hutton wish to express their appreciation to all 22 girls on the team for their hard work all season, to their parents for their support, and to Nikki McQueen for being team parent, Denise Mills for organizing the team party and Stacy Brandenburg for arranging a community service event in which the girls made homemade Valentine's Day roses for children at Ronald McDonald House at All Childrens Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Katie J. was honored with the Coaches Award!
Sydney B. is this season's Most Improved Player, voted by her teammates!

When the service project was completed, Sydney B., Katie J., Wendy D. and Victoria V. delivered flowers to young patients at Ronald McDonald House at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg
